Padre Island

Howdy!
Greetings from Padre Island National Seashore. Brody and I love the beach, although dad doesn't care too much for it and hates the sand. Luckily, mom likes to walk us along the water

After a nice long walk, we were thirsty and hungry for our picnic.

We stayed in Port Aransas, a small beach town on Padre Island, across the bay from Corpus Christi. One day Mom and dad went to Corpus Christi and toured the USS Lexington, an aircraft ca.rrier from WWII. A National Historic Landmark, at 910 feet, 33,000 tons and 16 decks, it was quite impressive.

It was an experience walking on the mammoth flight deck and imagining planes taking off and landing on the deck.

They spent several hours exploring the decks below, but it was too cramped to take picture, and lots of steep staircases! Later that day, Dad celebrated National Beer Day at the Lorelei Brewery.
While mom preferred her glass on wine.

Port Aransas is a birders paradise. One morning mom and dad woke up early to go to the Leonabelle Turnball Birding Center for a birding tour. Too bad it was so windy, even the birds had a hard time flying, but they did catch sight of a few. Sorry I can't remember the names of the birds that mom said they saw;

Another day we drove the the Aransas Wildlife preserve. Not our lucky day, we only saw one alligator.
This preserve is a refuge for the endangered Whooping Cranes that winter here. By mid-April they depart in pairs or small family groups for a hazardous journey 2,500 miles north to nesting grounds at the Wood Buffalo National Park in Canada. We were luckily to be able to see some Whopping Cranes in the distance with our binoculars,  but dad forgot his camera and mom's cell phone couldn't capture them, but trust me, I saw them!

We had a nice spot for our motor home, but no direct access to the beach so we had to be content with sitting outside and watching our neighbors.

Brody really wanted a ride in this car, just his size!
We spent some more time at the beach. I even convinced Brody to get his feet wet, he was scared of the little waves.
Hey, no fair mom. I need some privacy.

Now we are on our way to Galveston.

Adios,
Yuki and Brody
